Robert Sapolsky

Robert Sapolsky is a professor of biology at Stanford University and the author of several books on neuroscience and behavior. In his work, he has often discussed the importance of understanding the biological and evolutionary roots of human behavior, including aggression and violence.

In a 2010 lecture on "The Neuroscience of Violence," Sapolsky specifically addressed the issue of violence in the Balkans, including the wars in Croatia, Bosnia, and Serbia. He argued that while there are many factors that contribute to violence, including economic and political conditions, biology also plays a role.

Sapolsky cited research on the neurobiology of aggression, which suggests that there are certain brain structures and hormones that are involved in aggressive behavior. He also discussed the role of stress in triggering aggression, noting that people who are under chronic stress are more likely to be violent.

While Sapolsky did not specifically discuss Serbs in his lecture, his comments on the neurobiology of violence and the role of stress in triggering aggression are relevant to understanding violence in any population, including the Serbian population.
